Help us reach our goal!

Harambee is a Swahili word meaning the coming together of a group in order to help others. Harambee on the Hill is a student organization at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill that aims to create lasting relationships between volunteers from Carolina and two villages in rural Kenya. Our mission is to connect Carolina students with communities in rural Kenya enabling students to engage in meaningful volunteer work while addressing specific community needs.  Our students will work alongside local people to make a real impact while having a true cultural immersion experience.

Our projects are developed in partnership with the local communities we will be supporting and One Way Out, a registered 501(c)(3) charitable organization.  Some of the projects for 2014 include:

  • Construction of tables, chairs and desks for Dago Dala Hera Preschool/Kindergarten.

  • Interior and exterior painting, including educational murals and visual aids, for Dago Dala Hera Preschool/Kindergarten

  • Field Day for the children of Dago Dala Hera Orphanage

  • Class instruction and activities at Dago Primary, Dago Dala Hera Preschool and Sirua-Aulo Academy

  • Purchase of books and supplies for Dago Dala Hera Preschool/Kindergarten

  • Home repair for HIV positive widows with children

We need your help! We need to raise $5,000 to complete these projects. Please consider making a donation today. Contributions in any amount are appreciated and will make a big difference.

Are you making this donation for a member of our club?  If so, please let us know and that student will receive 40% of your donation to help with trip expenses.  So your donation will not only help the people in these communities but will also enable a student to learn, grow and serve others.

Harambee on the Hill partners with One Way Out, a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, so donations are tax deductible. For more information on One Way Out, please visit www.onewayoutkenya.com. Thank you for your support!
